Our Values at Work

Our values guide how we operate as a corporate citizen and inspire continuous efforts to reduce to make our communities healthier and more sustainable.

Our core values - integrity, respect, commitment, excellence and caring - are embedded in every interaction with our members, customers and suppliers. And as a health insurer, we recognize that taking care of people requires taking care of the planet.

We continuously evaluate our use of energy and resources and take steps to minimize our impact on the environment.

In 2024, we continued to offset 100% of our electric power-related emissions with the purchase of Green-e Certified Renewable Energy Certificates and reduced electric power consumption with 20 energy efficiency projects.

We also completed an agreement to purchase solar-generated electricity from a community solar array under construction near Peoria, supporting the expansion of carbon-neutral power generation in Illinois.

Our headquarters building has earned the WELL Health-Safety rating since 2022, demonstrating our commitment to facilities that support health and wellness.

In 2024 we evolved our urban beekeeping program to support native pollinator populations, hosting one honeybee hive and two bee hotels at our Pilsen and downtown buildings in Chicago. We also maintained pollinator gardens at our offices in Mattoon and Danville and implemented a biodiversity monitoring program to better understand local biodiversity measures.

This designation, earned for the ninth straight year, recognizes a broad range of initiatives focused on culture, compliance practices, governance, environmental and social impacts, and third-party management. In addition to this global recognition, our ethics and compliance resources for management were named a "best practice" by Health Ethics Trust.
